This week, your student spent two class periods researching and creating a food chain.
Each student chose a habitat, and then used the internet, encyclopedias and science texts to research the food chains of that habitat. They received a worksheet to fill in specific organisms in a 5 (6 including the sun) chain food chain. The first chain is a producer (an organism that makes its own food), the next was a Consumer that is prey to another consumer, then ANOTHER consumer that is also prey, followed by another consumer, and then a decomposer (to decompose the flesh of a dead consumer). The organisms had to bo specifically named as well as specific to their habitat. (Ex. grass is too general. Buffalo Grass would be an appropriate producer for a prairie habitat) ***See Worksheet***
After they completed their food chain, they began to draw and build it on strips of paper. On the strips, students were expected to include the specific name of the organism, its title (ex. consumer and prey), and a colored sketch of the organism. ***See picture of food chain and strips***
These completed chains are due at your students next science class:
Lane: Due Tuesday 12/8 at 1:30pm
VanSloten: Due Wednesday 12/9 at 1:30pm
Blake: Due Thursday 12/10 at 8:55am
